Leftovers into lemonade... coffee table time.

okay, so I like making coffee tables...I like that they can be more flexible in height or materials, no need to worry if your favorite chair fits under them.  I also have made it a goal to burn through our scrap piles (which are DEEP) this year, and that's another good reason to make a coffee table.

The scrap comes from a variety of places - most of the wood comes from the attic of a house we flipped in 2015, and it was too gorgeous for me to just put in the dumpster.  For this project, though, I wanted something clearer and less knotty, so I went into the stash we still have from the installation of the trim in our house.  The tile is one of a couple of extras leftover from our mudroom addition, and it's my favorite tile in the whole wide world.  Find it at www.granitifiandre.com.  Once you find it, think of all the benefits of a honed porcelain that's 30x30...almost no grout!  Anyway, I ordered hairpin legs for the table, to give it a little midcentury vibe, and used the plates of the leg to screw the frame together.  I used one frame that was 1" wider than a second frame laid on top of it, so that I had a ledge to affix a thin sheet of plywood to, underneath the tile.  Anything to avoid mitered corners when you don't have a permanent work table for clamping.  I sanded all the edges smooth, gave it a glassy chocolate brown stain, and there you go.  TABLE.  I love it.  Want me to make you one?  Seriously.  Email me, I have 2 pieces of 30x30 tile left.....
